Puerto Rican singer Daddy Yankee and Mireddys González, who was his wife for nearly 30 years, officially finalized their divorce on Tuesday after filing a request for 'irreparable breakdown' in court. The couple decided to end their marriage through a video conference, avoiding in-person court appearances.
The divorce decree was issued by Judge Eva Soto of the First Instance Court of Carolina, a municipality in northern Puerto Rico. Although the couple's separation was confirmed in December, rumors about their split had grown when they stopped following each other on social media.
The conflict over the control of El Cartel Records and Los Cangris Inc. is still ongoing, as Daddy Yankee objected to Judge Anthony Cuevas' decision to conclude the corporate lawsuit with his wife, claiming that not all required information about the companies had been provided.
Daddy Yankee announced that he hired a company specializing in banking security to organize his corporations, after the González sisters made million-dollar transfers from corporate accounts without the artist's authorization.
In a statement, Mireddys González expressed her gratitude for the lessons learned during the marriage: 'I am grateful for the lessons and learnings because without that, I would not be the woman I AM TODAY.' She highlighted her personal growth process and decision to move forward without looking back.
