The FBI in Puerto Rico arrested twelve people on Wednesday, including several officials from the Department of Treasury. They are suspected of participating in a scheme that sought to circumvent the agency's public systems, a spokeswoman for the federal agency, Lymari Cruz, confirmed to EFE. To carry out the scheme, 'there were Treasury employees,' Cruz explained, who are named in the indictment, along with 26 implicated corporations, for which she did not provide data. 'This is not an operation against the Department of Treasury, and no elected officials have been detained,' Cruz said, noting that she does not know how many of the twelve arrested are officials from the public agency. 'There may be more arrests in the future,' Cruz said. The arrests were carried out in various areas of Puerto Rico. The head of the federal prosecutor's office on the island, W. Stephen Muldrow, will hold a press conference at 11:00 a.m. to provide more details about the operation and the indictment that identifies all the accused and the corruption scheme.
