The Government of Puerto Rico and the country's Tourism Company have suspended the second payment to the Miss Universe organization until a meeting is held. Apparently, this is all happening due to the news and everything that has been circulating about the results of the last edition held in Thailand. According to media reports in the country, the payment was due to be made on December 8th, as Puerto Rico seeks to renegotiate the terms under which the event will be held, revealed Williamette Robles Cancel, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. The executive also clarified that the event will not be canceled because $3 million of the $9 million agreed upon with the organization has already been paid. Precisely because these are public funds, and we, so to speak, owe answers to the people of Puerto Rico.
"As a government, from the very beginning we have been clear: the Tourism Company and I have been clear that all management carried out will be a management with transparency. Having made that clear, we have demands that will be linked to transparency," it was said.
They add that one of the topics to be discussed is whether the press or some entity requests from the Miss Universe jury, once the event is held, that the results be made public.
"There have to be standards that must be met, because as a destination, what we seek is for the international projection to be a positive one, as it was with Bad Bunny's residency, as we want it to be with Miss Universe, as it was when we brought in Barcelona and Real Madrid, as we do when we bring in the Open," they pointed out.
For now, there is no danger of the event being canceled due to the investigations against Raúl Rocha.
"They are not concerns, they are demands that we are going to make to an organization for the sake of transparency."
