Bad Bunny Recognized for Contribution to Spanish Language

This Thursday, the Puerto Rican Academy of the Spanish Language issued a resolution highlighting the work of artist Bad Bunny in the global dissemination of the Spanish language. The institution emphasized in a statement that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio is currently the most internationally projected popular music interpreter, and through his career, he has contributed 'significantly to the Spanish language achieving a notable presence in different corners of the world.' The Academy highlighted that the Spanish of Puerto Rico is an essential element in the identity and artistic work of the singer. Likewise, the resolution noted that Martínez Ocasio's cultural project has helped to 'overcome prejudices towards communicative forms typical of popular, urban, youth, or languages in contact with other languages.' 'Despite the marked locality of the references and linguistic forms used in his compositions, his message has managed to transcend geographical, national, generational, and ideological boundaries,' pointed out the Academy. In this regard, it indicated that the Puerto Rican and Antillean voice of Bad Bunny has achieved 'a transcontinental resonance, representing America in its entirety.'
