Legendary Puerto Rican salsa singer Papo Rosario passed away at the age of 78 due to health complications. He left this world surrounded by his family, filled with love, and with God in his heart. Rosario was the lead vocalist of the famous group El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico for 38 years. He began his musical career as a teenager with the orchestra El Conjunto Alegre. In 1980, he joined El Gran Combo, replacing Mike Ramos. He was also part of other orchestras such as Willie Rosario, Tempo 74, and Continental Sextet. Together with Charlie Aponte and Jerry Rivas, he formed one of the strongest trios in the Caribbean salsa genre. His departure is a huge loss to the music world. The singer's family expressed gratitude for all the love and support he received during his life. They also asked for space to get through this difficult time. "We receive the departure of Papo Rosario with deep sorrow. We ask for space to be able to face this painful moment as a family," the statement reads. "We thank you for the expressions of affection, the company, and the support you gave him in life." His colleagues, including singer Johnny Rivera, also expressed their condolences. "My deepest condolences to his family, his bandmates, and all who admired him. Fly high, friend, and may you rest in peace," one of them wrote. "Your voice and your legacy will live forever in our hearts." Recall that Rosario officially left the group in 2019 after it was reported that he was suffering from cancer. Six days ago, the former leader of the same orchestra, Rafael Ithier, also passed away.

"Thank you for so many years of music, joy, and pride for Puerto Rico and the world," stated Rivera. "He left surrounded by his entire family, with much love and with God in his heart," highlighted the Rosario family, led by his wife Ernie, children, and relatives. "Do not let go of us in your prayers and may God continue to fill us with strength."

"Rest in peace, friend. Your voice and your legacy will live forever in our hearts."
