Puerto Rican salsa singer Tony Vega announced on Tuesday that he will celebrate his 50 years in the music industry with a concert on April 25 at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan, which he described as 'a celebration' of his time as a renowned Caribbean genre artist. 'This concert will be a celebration of everything I have experienced during these 50 years of my career,' Vega said in a statement about his show titled '49 + 1: Half a Century of Romantic Salsa.' 'I am very happy that it is on my island, surrounded by my people, reliving moments that have marked my life and sharing the music with those who have accompanied me from the beginning,' expressed Vega. According to the statement, Vega will perform hits such as 'Esa Mujer', 'Aparentemente', 'Uno Mismo', 'Lo mío es amor', among others, with his orchestra under the direction of Jota Ruiz. For five decades, Vega has been one of the most popular figures in contemporary salsa, with a career that began with the musical influences of his family and Anglo-Saxon music during his youth in the United States. He began his professional career in the 70s, as part of the orchestras La Selecta by Raphy Leavitt and Willie Rosario. Later he joined the orchestras of Louie Ramírez and Eddie Palmieri before starting a successful solo career in 1988. He has been recognized for his talent with gold and platinum records for the album 'Uno Mismo' and nominated for a Grammy.
